Zoom Video Conferencing Information for Online Live Courses
If your course is an Online Live course (involves live, synchronous videoconferencing sessions with students), you will need to provide Zoom information to your students including class meeting days/times and how to log in/get started with Zoom. It is recommended that you copy and paste the information below into a Page in the first module of your course. Also, make sure to update the information below with your course-specific information.
This course will use Zoom to provide live online lectures. Below is information to help prepare for our first Zoom class.
Zoom Days & Times: Provide the days and times your class will meet using Zoom
Zoom Classroom: Explain to the students how the class will function/work in Zoom. Are you using breakout rooms? Will there be a lot of student participation? Are you using other technologies with Zoom?

Zoom Etiquette for Online Meetings:
- Be on time.
- Mute your microphone if you aren’t talking.
- Use your real name.
- Raise your hand to speak.
- Use reactions Links to an external site. to show your understanding.
- Only post chat messages relevant to the lessons. Remember, the chat is public and everyone can see what you write!
- Students should try to log online to each class meeting from a quiet, distraction-free environment.
- If possible, Students should enable video so that the teacher and classmates can see them. If students don't enable video, they should have an appropriate visual representing them.
- Students should try to log online to each class meeting from a place with a background that they would not mind others seeing. If this isn't possible, consider utilizing the virtual background Links to an external site. functionality available in Zoom.
- Students should have a plan for taking notes (paper and pencil, digital notepad, Word/Doc pages, etc.).
- Students are expected to display appropriate classroom behavior in all virtual classrooms. This includes wearing appropriate clothing during all Zoom sessions.

Having Problems with Zoom?
If you're experiencing choppiness or slow speeds during your Zoom call, try the following:
- If you are listening to a lecture and not being asked to participate, put your microphone on Mute.
- If you don’t need to be seen on camera, stop your webcam video.
- *Students: always check with your instructor to make sure this is ok beforehand!
- Try disabling HD video in your Zoom settings. Click on the up arrow next to ‘Stop Video’ and select “Video Settings.”
- Closeout of any other applications that may be running on your computer that you do not need.
- Stop or pause any other actions that you may be running in the background such as downloads, uploads, data backups, or streaming.
- To troubleshoot audio echo or feedback (Links to an external site.), mute all attendees and then unmute one at a time to isolate the issue.
