Greetings and welcome to the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) professional development series at Richland! UDL is an approach to teaching and learning that gives all students equal opportunity to succeed. The goal of UDL is to use a variety of teaching methods, regardless of teaching modality, to remove barriers to learning. UDL also looks for different ways to keep students motivated!

This professional development series will guide participants through the basics of what UDL is, why is it important, what are the different components, and how to directly apply UDL in the classroom and online. Each month will focus on a different topic and include interactive sessions, resources, and an online asynchronous discussion. Our interactive sessions will include the option of either face-to-face or online live via Zoom; online live Zoom sessions will be recorded.

Our goal is to have participants participate each month as the content and topics build on each other. Those who participate from August - December, by attending/watching each month's session and posting in the monthly online discussions, will receive their own copy of the book Equity by Design. Equity in Design will help lead the conversation during our January - March sessions but is not needed to participate. In April, we will hold a UDL Showcase where participants can provide brief (live or pre-recorded) demonstrations/explanations of how they integrated UDL into their courses and any results of this integration. Those who fully participate in the entire series will receive a certificate and top-secret mystery gift!
