Steps to Complete the Application for Accommodations at Richland Community College

Step by Step Instructions to complete the Application for Accommodations

  1. Log in to myRichland.  You can either type my.richland.edu into your web browser or go to Richland’s website at www.richland.edu Links to an external site. and click on the myRichland icon towards the top.

  1. Log in with your Username and Password.  If you have not yet activated your account, select Activate Account (student) from the left-hand side menu and follow the instructions.
  2. Once you are logged in, hover over the My Student Info tab and click on Accommodations.
  3. On the Accommodations Home page, there is helpful general information in the About Us section as well as more detailed information if you scroll down through the New Student Resources, Delta Alpha Pi, Forms, and other Resources that may provide beneficial information.
  4. Back up at the tops of the page, the center section is labeled “Applying for Accommodations.”
  5. Select the term that you are applying for – this would be the current term if you are enrolled in classes currently or the term that you are to begin classes.

  1. Complete the consent portion below, checking the boxes for any of the option consent as desired or adding additional names in the box for “Other Consent,” read and click on “Save Consent.”

    NOTE: If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must also complete the consent form and attend the accommodations meeting.  Click on the link to “Download Parent/Guardian Consent Form,” complete and scan to accom@richland.edu or Fax to 1.217.875.6961.

 

  1. Click on “Go to the Online Accommodation Application.”
  2. Complete the questions on the application to the best of your ability.  You can leave questions blank if needed.  However, the more information you share about your disability, the better prepared we will be for the interview:

The first question confirms the term you are applying for

The second question asks if you are a Heartland Technical Academy Student.  The Heartland Technical Academy is a dual credit program for high school students.

Are you enrolled in the Adult Education & GED program? – Adult Education and GED serves students that did not earn a high school diploma or are learning English as a second language.

Do you need accommodations for a placement test? – The placement tests are already untimed and in a quiet location, if you need accommodations other than these (i.e., Test Reader, Test Writer), enter the information here

Student Reported Diagnosed Disabilities – this is where you list your disability(ies). Categories for the different types of disabilities, check all that apply and specify

Learning Disabilities include Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, or you can just say reading, writing, and/or math.
Psychological Disability (examples include Depression, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, PTSD, etc.)
Physical Disability (examples include Blind, Deaf, Amputation, Cerebral Palsy, Arthritis, etc.)
Other Health Impairment (examples include Diabetes, Asthma, Epilepsy, etc.)
Temporary Disability (examples include broken bone, concussion, etc.)
No Diagnosed Disability – if you are pending diagnosis or do not currently have a diagnosed disability, check this box and specify why you are applying for accommodations

Describe your disability and how it affects your performance as a student.  Example: “It takes longer for me to read and write and I fall behind.”

Please indicate what accommodations you are requesting and explain how they will provide access to the materials or content.  Example: “More time on tests and a notetaker so I do not run out of time.”

Did you receive special education instruction in grade school or high school?  If yes, describe services.  You can list previous accommodations, for example: “Extended time on tests and a notetaker.”

Are you receiving help from a community service agency (e.g., DORS)?  Please list any agencies you are working with relative to your disability(ies).

Do you take any prescription medications?  If yes, please list or summarize.  Does not need to be a full list of medications and dosages.  If you do not have the information handy, it can just be a general summary.  You can also include any side effects from medications that relate to your accommodations request.

Are you a Veteran?  Yes or No

Is there anything else you would like the Accommodations Office at Richland to know?  If yes, please explain.  If there is information that you would like to share before the accommodations appointment that was not covered by any of the previous questions, please add that information here.

Is this your first time attending college?  Yes or No

Are you employed?  If yes, how many hours per week?

What is your academic goal at Richland (e.g., major or interests)?  Example: Major in Psychology, plan to transfer to ISU.  Can also be undecided or not sure.

What is your career goal?  Example: Counselor.  Can also be undecided or not sure.

How did you learn about the Accommodations office at Richland?  Choose the box that most closely represents how you learned about accommodations at Richland.

Please list your preferred phone number if we need to call you.  This may be used to schedule your accommodations appointment, follow up on documentation, or ask questions about your application for accommodations.

 

  1. Once you complete the application, click the Submit button at the bottom.  A confirmation email will be sent to your Richland email account and will include the documentation guidelines.  Once your documentation is received and processed, you will be contacted by the Accommodations Office to schedule an appointment with the Accommodations Specialist.  Email accom@richland.edu with any questions about the application process or documentation requirements.
