Record and Post Lectures

If possible, pre-recorded and live mini-lectures are a great option to help provide normal face-to-face lecture content. There are several different options available to help facilitate this. Also, remember, Online Learning is happy to assist you with any of the options below! You are not alone and help is available to help you make use of these resources!

Schedule Live Lectures or Conferences

The following web conferencing tools can be used for either synchronous whole class or even one-on-one conferences (ex: for office hours or to talk a student through their assignment or questions). Live conferences are helpful if your lessons require live student-to-professor or student-to-student interaction.

Pre-Record your Lectures

You can find additional information on using Studio by going to the Canvas Studio User Guides page: Canvas Studio Guide Links to an external site..  (This link will take you to the Table of Contents page for Studio.)

PowerPoint

Do you have PowerPoints (PPTs) already created for your lessons? You can add audio to your slides and export your PPT as an MP4 to upload to Canvas (via Canvas Studio) as a video. Hint: Try to limit the amount of time you speak over each slide to keep your video short.

Directions for adding audio to your PowerPoint:

Note: Recording full lectures is not advised. Unless your lecture is action-packed, students will have trouble staying focused on your video for a full 50-minute lecture. Technology-wise, you are also likely to run into download and playing problems with a long video. Instead, think about how to restructure your presentation into chunked segments. Ideally, each segment should be concise and focused on a single topic and between 3-7 minutes in length.

Other Video Options??

If you don't feel either Canvas Conferences, Zoom, or Pre-Recorded Lectures meet your needs, but you would like to record live or pre-recorded lectures for students, then contact Tech Services (techservices@richland.edu). They will work with you so that you can be recorded while lecturing/writing on the white-board of a classroom. These recordings will also be saved and can be uploaded to Canvas Studio for additional viewing by students.
