Hybrid Course Requirements
What is required for a HYBRID course?
A hybrid course in Canvas should include the following:
- Course Design - Modules by Week, Unit, or Chapter. Weekly Modules are recommended because students often find it much easier to understand what is required and what they need to do if the course is structured by Week.
- Course Welcome - Page introducing students to the course, what to expect, and how to get started.
- Syllabus
- Course Lecture and/or Content - Any course content not provided during face-to-face class time needs to be provided in Canvas. This could be chapter readings from the textbook, PowerPoint, pre-recorded video, or live Zoom sessions.
- Gradebook set-up with Assignment due dates.
The main difference between a hybrid and online course is (1) the amount of course lecture/content provided in the online environment and (2) the number of assignments completed in the online environment. It is assumed that in a hybrid course students will be getting some instruction and doing some assignments in the face-to-face portion of their course. Because of this, for the hybrid course, it is acceptable to have less course content and assignments submitted in Canvas.
