Interested in the research on using Emoji?

Research studies on the use of emoticons in higher education, specifically, in online learning environments is a new topic. Emojis and emoticons termed as paralinguistic cues, fill-in for non-verbal communication, and have emotional and linguistic components (Vareberg & Westerman, 2020). Paralinguistic cues in online educational settings, in the form of written communication and feedback by the instructors, can boost perceptions of warmth to the students (Moffitt et al., 2019).
