New Quizzes Information
Canvas currently has two quiz engines...New Quizzes (NQ) and Classic Quizzes (CQ). The goal is to eventually fully transition to New Quizzes, but there is currently no end-of-life date on Classic Quizzes, and it is not expected to go away anytime soon. Most Richland faculty have been using Classic Quizzes and it is perfectly fine to continue doing so, but here is some important information to be aware of...
- If you are unsure as to which quiz engine(s) you are using, look at the rocket icon of a Quiz. If the rocket icon is white, it is a Classic Quiz. If the rocket is filled in, it is a New Quiz.
- If you wish to begin using New Quizzes or at least have that option in a course, you must go to "Settings" and then the "Feature Options" tab to enable New Quizzes. Then, when you create a Quiz, you will be given the option to create either a New Quiz or a Classic Quiz.
- Here is information if you wish to migrate any of your current Classic Quizzes to New Quizzes Links to an external site. (including Question Bank to Item Bank migration).
- This Instructor New Quizzes Readiness Checklist Download Instructor New Quizzes Readiness Checklist contains lots of information on the transition to New Quizzes.
- This Canvas New Quizzes Feature Comparison Download Canvas New Quizzes Feature Comparison document shows current functionality in New Quizzes versus Classic Quizzes.
- A few interesting benefits of New Quizzes include new question types (including Ordering, Hot Spot, Categorization, and Stimulus) the ability to apply student accommodations to all New Quizzes in a course Links to an external site., the ability for an Instructor to submit a New Quiz for a student from the Moderate tab, and the ability to print New Quizzes (with or without answers).
