On May 19, 2023, the United States Justice Department and the Department of Education jointly issued a Dear Colleague Letter Links to an external site. reminding colleges, universities, and other postsecondary institutions to ensure that their online services, programs, and activities are accessible to people with disabilities.
Making sure that all digital resources presented to students through Canvas are accessible and ensuring that all videos are captioned are two important components of providing equal opportunities to all students. This page in the Canvas Instructor Resources course provides instructions on how to use the Canvas accessibility checker (which is available on all Pages, Discussions, Assignments, and Quizzes in Canvas) and how to caption videos in Canvas Studio.
